For a third year university project I chose to research traditional and contemporary techniques in smocking and how they could be used creatively to create costumes within a fantasy context, applying my research to construct this costume for the character of the Evil Enchantress from the fairytale 'Rapunzel'.

My aim was to use the techniques to create different textures from the natural world, exploring the darker side of nature to develop a look that was both elegant and threatening.
